The Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education held a conference in Hanoi on December 24 to review the external information work, sea and island dissemination, and border demarcation, border marker planting, and border management in 2019, as well as set tasks for 2020.
More than 400 delegates from ministries, central departments, political-social organisations, provincial and centrally-run city People’s Committees nationwide took part in the event.
Participants discussed the outcomes of the external information work, sea and island dissemination, and border demarcation, border marker planting, and border management in 2019, and experiences and important notes to implement these tasks in 2020.
They said 2019 is a ‘breakthrough’ year to fulfil socio-economic development targets, creating a premise for 2020 and the 2021-2026 period. Amid the complicated and unpredictable developments in the region and the world, the external information work, sea and island dissemination, and border demarcation, border marker planting, and border management, have gained significant outcomes, contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty, legitimate rights and interests, and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development.
The external information work has reflected Vietnam as a friend, reliable partner, and responsible member of the international community.
The regular implementation of the external information work has helped enhance awareness of officials, Party members, and people about border, sea and island matters, as well as reinforce social consensus about the Party and State’s policies, maintain social order and security, obtain the support of international friends, contributing to protecting Vietnam’s legitimate rights and interests in the East Sea.
Politburo member Vo Van Thuong, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, recognised the efforts of all sectors and localities in enhancing external information activities.
He pointed out shortcomings that need to be addressed in the coming time such as passive cooperation of forces in handling emergency, complicated and sensitive issues; ineffective utilisation of information technology and social media; and inadequate investment in external information activities.

Vietnam will take the role of ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2020. Many important historical events are scheduled to take place in the year, including the organisation of all-level Party congresses towards the 13th National Party Congress.
In that context, the external information work, sea and island dissemination, and border demarcation, border marker planting, and border management should be continuously promoted to ensure two import targets that are resolutely and persistently safeguarding the national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity; and maintaining peaceful and stable environment for national development.
He suggested integrating external information into communication activities to help increase the role and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena.
At the conference, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education presented certificates of merit to 27 collectives and 11 individuals who made remarkable contributions to the external information work, sea and island dissemination, and border demarcation, border marker planting, and border management in 2019./.
